Woodman Folk Club- 23 April 2004 - Live Although I had been familiar with Tom Napper, but not since the court case, I was ignorant of Bliss. What a revelation, great players, excellent choice of material, delivery full of enthusiasm – stage presence in abundance. Tom B’s writing is very impressive, I’m embarrassed to have heard his material for the first time, though a couple of songs sounded very familiar. The subtlety and beauty of ‘The Violin’ contrasting strongly with the historic leanings of ‘The Salt’ and ’The Silverlode of Sark’. But the emotion of ‘ Turn to Face the Wind’ provides a song to bring a climax to any evening. Interspersed with songs of mills and millers, a strange but true tale of Scottish urine soaked tweed were the inevitable vintage sets of tunes. Sadly for banjo aficionados only once were we treated to the mighty Napper’s tenor. But no matter, the evening was brimming with excellence, a worthy addition to the Woodman list of ‘must book again’ guests | ||||
