AUTUMN (Bliss)

Voice, guitars, whistle, concertina, piano - with Patsy Matheson, Maggie Boyle and Bryony Griffith

This dates from a time when I was not writing ‘folk’ songs - but you may still spot the influences

Should I ever ask you round,

Now the madness of the summer’s slipped away?

Never to hold you in my arms

God forbid that I should give you cause to misunderstand

Will life ever be the same?

Teased by hollow laughter, racked by mellow pain

In the autumn of our love - the leaves will turn to blue

In the autumn of our love - for a winter without you

In the autumn of our love - must you turn your face away

In the autumn of our love - now is the winter of our days

Like a fool I wandered back down to where we used to lie

But now the place is damp and deserted

Dripping down as if in mockery

Funny but my eyes would not join in

Will life ever be the same?

Teased by hollow laughter, racked by mellow pain

In the autumn of our love - the leaves will turn to blue

In the autumn of our love - for a winter without you

In the autumn of our love - must you turn your face away

In the autumn of our love - now is the winter of our days

Recorded on Mixed Moss with help from Maggie Boyle, Patsy Matheson and Bryony Griffith
